Resident Coordinator's welcome message
The UN supports the Government and people of Zambia in their efforts to realize the long-term national Vision 2030, which reflects the collective understanding, aspirations and determination of the Zambian people to be a “prosperous middle income country” by 2030. To realize this, the Government of Zambia has set the horizon for developing medium-term national development plans and provided the driving force for achieving the specified long-term objectives within the vision which is in tandem with the Millennium Declaration (MD) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
To this effect, the UN’s strategy has been to support Zambia in making its economy grow in such as way that is broadly shared, that generates more livelihoods opportunities that reduces poverty by increasing employment and incomes for all. The country and sector analysis work, undertaken by the UN system as part of the UNDAF(2011-2015) process, led to the articulation of several underlying factors. The key themes arising from that analysis were clustered and consolidated into broad categories of interventions that the UN system intends to address in order to support Zambia’s efforts to accelerate progress towards the attainment of the MDGs. These clusters in brief are: HIV and AIDS; Sustainable Livelihoods and Food Security; Human Development; Climate Change, Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction and Response; and, Good Governance and Gender Equality
The UN website, as a reliable communication and advocacy tool, strives to highlight and update all stakeholders and the general public on the implementation progress of the above mentioned areas. In addition, it is expected to provide updates and issues of the UN reform in Zambia considering the preparations to transform UN Zambia into a self starter Delivering as One for more a strategically focused interventions to support Zambia.
